ASI and three passengers on a Jaipur-Mumbai train were shot dead by an RPF constable, who has been arrested.

According to an official, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan shot dead four persons on board a train traveling from Jaipur to Mumbai.

On Monday, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable shot dead four persons, including an assistant sub-inspector, while they were on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra, as reported by an official.

The incident, as reported by ANI, took place on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train.

According to the official, the constable fired from his automatic weapon, killing the RPF ASI and three other passengers of the train shortly after 5 am. Palghar is approximately 100 km away from Mumbai.
As per the official's statement, Chetan Kumar Choudhary opened fire on his escort duty in-charge ASI Tika Ram Meena while the train was running. After killing his senior, the constable proceeded to another bogie and shot dead three passengers. The constable was later apprehended by the police at Mira Road with the assistance of Government Railway Police and RPF officials.

According to initial information, the incident occurred in the B5 coach of the Jaipur Express train (12956) at 5:23 am. The situation involved CT Chetan, who was on escort duty, firing on an escort in-charge ASI. The train had reached Borivali, and it was reported that three civilians, in addition to the ASI, were casualties. The constable involved has been apprehended, and the DCP North GRP has been informed about the incident, as stated by the officials.

The Western Railway spokesperson provided details about the unfortunate incident that occurred on July 31, 2023, in Train No 12956 Jaipur – Mumbai Superfast Express. In this incident, the escorting staff constable Chetan Kumar shot his colleague, escort incharge ASI Tika Ram. After shooting his colleague, the constable held passengers at gunpoint. Tragically, ASI Tika Ram and three passengers were shot during the incident. Subsequently, Constable Chetan Kumar tried to flee after activating the Alarm Chain near Dahisar, but he was arrested by RPF/Bhayandar along with the weapon.

As of now, the reason behind the incident has not been determined, according to Sumit Thakur, the chief PRO of the Western Railway. The accused is currently in the custody of the Mira Road railway police, as confirmed by the official. Additionally, the bodies of the victims were taken out of the train at Borivali railway station. Further investigations are likely to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
